Society for Creative Anachronism

Non-profit quasi-medieval/renaissance re-creative organization with chapters throughout the US, Canada, parts of Europe. Many chapters include a form of fencing usually called “rapier combat.” The Ann Arbor chapter has an active fencing group (Cynnabar.org) midrealm.org/marshal/fencing

The Ring of Steel

An Ann Arbor, Michigan theatrical fencing club. Stage fencing skills taught using period weapon replicas. Based in Ann Arbor, the group does educational presentations. ringofsteel.org

J. W. Higgins Museum

Jeffrey Forgeng (formerly Singman), curator and longtime researcher of period fencing manuals, leads weekend classes and workshops in German Longsword and other historical fencing techniques year round at this renowned armour museum. Jeffrey was instrumental in reviving the Ann Arbor Sword Club in the late 1990s, teaching historical swordplay. higginssword.org

Chicago Swordplay Guild

Chicago Swordplay Guild is one of the more active Midwest US historical fencing groups. They sponsor an annual international symposium covering a wide variety of combat skills. chicagoswordplayguild.com

US Fencing Association

USFA is the U.S. governing body for modern (“Olympic”) fencing, and sanctions local, regional and national tournaments.
