Getting involved

• Everyone: NO CHARGE for your first visit. No charge for visitors or spectators.

Experienced fencers – show up with your gear

Beginners – period and modern
  – loose clothing and clean, non-outdoor court shoes

Equipment
  – best to have your own, but silly to buy before you try
  – we have some loaner gear for while you are starting out.
  – bring a long-cuff glove for your dextrous hand; a pair for period fencing

Physical condition
  – able to move around the floor; manipulate at least one weapon

Age – We welcome adults of ANY age
  – Adults under 18 need parental consent provided IN PERSON
  – Younger adults not only learn well in our nonformal system – they soon become teachers

Fees/costs
  – Drop-in fencers pay a $10 per-visit fee.
  – Regulars will find it less expensive to become members and pay a whole-year fee in installments.
The 2007/08 season cost was $195 for regulars.

How our fees and costs work:

The Sword Club has no treasury. Your entire fee goes into sharing the cost of renting the Grange Hall (39 Tuesday evenings at $55 per). The working estimated cost represents a savings of 30% off the walk-in price. We refine that estimate on October 11 and January 17, when we see how our numbers look. Half the season membership fee is due a week after those dates. Final reckoning is May 16. No major holidays fall on or next to a Tuesday this year.
